A breeze blew crisp and cool through the leaf-fall night, the sun just disappearing beyond the horizon as the first few warriors of Silverpelt began to shine. Spiderleaf padded silently through the territory, apprentice in tow. They took large, quick steps, their lengthy legs placing them a good few tail-lengths ahead of the younger cat.
The light wind rustled their fur. The air rolled clear and brisk within their lungs. Their whiskers and ears twitched at the shifting of the grass and the steps of Mosspaw behind them, and their eyes kept moving upward, beyond the sun's fading, golden rays. To Spiderleaf, this, aside from dreaming, was the best part of the half-moon gathering. The quiet stillness and solitude that came from moving through the land at night. A trek across the territories, nearly alone, excused and expected as a part of their role in the clan.
They weren't looking forward to the pleasantries before the meeting, and hoped that everyone would arrive promptly. The sooner that they could speak with their ancestors and return home, the better. Too many times they had been kept waiting by stragglers, paws itching in frustration. It wasn't their duty to care for sluggish peers. Still, they would bite their tongue and waited in clipped, patient silence.
Tonight, they hoped, all would go smoothly. No clouds marred the sky, in spite of the generous rains the territories had been receiving over the recent days, and as far as they were aware, there were no great traumas to hold their fellow medicine cats back.
Beneath Spiderleaf's paws, the grass gave way to bare earth, and then to the cold, familiar feeling of stone. They turned to check on Mosspaw.
"Come," they said, gently traipsing down into the hollow. "Almost there."
