Birdkit woke up early the sun wasn't even up yet. Stretching she padded towards the nursery entrance and peeked out. Everyone was still asleep, she didn't even think the dawn patrol had left yet. Smiling mischievously she padded towards the dirt place. She wrinkled her nose at the smell and padded around it to where she knew a very small hole in the wall was. Unless you were low to the ground like a kit you wouldn't know it was there. As she reached it she nudged it to make it a bit bigger than squeezed through it feeling thorns scrape against her fur. When she got to the other side she gave her fur a shake and licked a scratch on her shoulder she got from a thorn.
Looking around a smile spread across her face, she had done it. She was out of camp for the first time and no one even knew she was gone. She knew Stone-ear would be furious with her when he found out but it was worth it to see what was outside of the camp. She was four and a half moons old she shouldn't have to wait until she was six moons old.
Birdkit padded to a pile of stones that led to the other side of the stream. She quickly hopped from one to the next until she reached the other side. Stopping she looked back at the camp walls and smiled. Slowly she began padding away from the camp. Each step made her more and more excited. She made sure to stay away from the main trails which she could tell from all the scent of her clan mates coming off of them. By the time she was several fox lengths away from camp she was wiggling with excitement. When she was far enough from the camp she began to smell prey.
Smelling mouse she crouched down like her father had taught her and sniffed the air. It was coming from the roots of an oak tree. By the sound of it, it was nibbling on an acorn. Slowly placing one paw in front of the other she stalked closer. When it was finally in her site she ran her tongue across her lips and pounced. Her tail clamped down on it's tail. She swung her other paw at it sending it flying into the tree stunning it. She than leaped again and grabbed it with her teeth and sunk them into the neck like her dad showed her on freshkill killing it.
It may not have been very neat but she had killed her first prey. She smiled broadly and let out an excited yowl as she pranced in a circle holding her head high as she could with the mouse in it.
