Name: Sparrowheart
Clan/Status: RiverClan/Medicine cat
Gender: Male
Age: 40 moons
Appearance: Sparrowheart is a lithe grey and white tom with yellow eyes and a small scar on his leg. He has an additional toe on each paw; as a result, he is not as dexterous as he could have been and occasionally has issues with delicate cobwebs.
Personality: Sparrowheart is a slightly nervous cat by nature and is more likely to run in the face of danger than defend himself (or others). He feels grateful for having been able to train to be a medicine cat than a warrior, for while medicine cats require their own certain brand of courage, he knows that he would have been unable to muster up the fortitude and selflessness that being a warrior requires. That being said, he has very few regrets about choosing his path – given his general indecisiveness and proclivity towards worrying, this is impressive.
Despite his cowardliness, Sparrowheart is a very compassionate cat who truly tries to find the best in everyone. He is very quick to forgive and forget, which has worked in his detriment in a few cases. When under duress, he tends to be extremely nervous and fidgety, but in day to day interactions he comes off as sweet (if a bit meek). He loves to see how everyone in his Clan is doing and holds a strong love for his clanmates. While mundane chit-chat bores some cats, Sparrowheart loves it and is often willing to spend hours talking with anyone interested.
At gatherings, he doesn't talk much and tends to keep to either himself or his clanmates. Standing with the other medicine cats in front of all the Clans makes him nervous and if he had a choice, he probably wouldn't attend. He isn't so fond of the other Clans in general, having treated way too many of the injuries they gave his beloved clanmates. However, he gets along decently well with the other medicine cats, though he wouldn't necessarily count them among his friends.
History: Kithood – Sparrowheart was born to Mossnose and Shrewfoot under ordinary circumstances. He was their only kit and was spoiled a little. In general, his kithood was fairly ordinary; he got along well with his denmates, he was curious, he could swim as well as the rest, and he had the usual kithood aspirations to become the greatest warrior the Clans had ever seen. The last bit changed abruptly right before his apprentice ceremony. He woke up that day to the sound of one of the elder's wailing and when he raced out of the nursery to see what was going on, he was paralyzed with horror. One of the border patrols had come back bleeding, limping, and with a corpse. As the rest of the Clan rushed to the aid of their clanmates, Sparrowheart was consumed with overwhelming terror. In his heart of hearts, he knew that he wouldn't be able to rush into battle like the others.
As a result of the border skirmish, his ceremony was stalled, which gave him time to plead to be the medicine cat's apprentice instead. The leader was a little hesitant at first, but, after considering the age of their current medicine cat, relented.
Apprenticeship – Sparrowheart's mentor, Wolfflower, was elderly, a little paranoid, and given to fear mongering. While she used to be fairly stoic, in her old age she saw monsters lurking in shadows everywhere and this tendency began to rub off on Sparrowheart. She preferred to keep him secluded from most of the others and refused to let him communicate with cats from the other Clans. He only went to one gathering during his apprenticeship, and by that point, he was too wary of the others to make any forays at friendship. Unfortunately, for several moons RiverClan underwent a lot of tension relating to their borders and warriors came back with injuries daily. Fear ran high in the Clan and Sparrowheart began to find evidence to justify his growing worries. After the disagreements and skirmishes settled down, his apprenticeship resumed its normal course and he was given his medicine cat name at the age of nineteen moons. Several moons later, his mentor died, leaving him as the sole medicine cat. The sudden responsibility that was pushed on him made him anxious for a while, but he eventually grew used to it .
Relations: Mossnose (mother – living), Shrewfoot (father – living), Wolfflower (mentor – deceased), Birchpaw (apprentice - living).
